WebWar and Peace was long on my reading list. The war in Ukraine urged me to read up on the background of that country, the Holodomor, Stalin, and I decided to start with Tolstoy, do get a feel for Russia. A few comments. The book is very long, and a lot of phases in the book are spun out excessively. WebIn War and Peace, Tolstoy maintains a delicate balance between stirring scenes of major historical events and intimate portraits of daily life. In 361 chapters (approximately 1500 pages), the author moves back and forth between ballrooms and battlefields, marriages and massacres, private lives and public spectacles.
