Directory slash
WebIt by default shows all of the directories with a forward slash. It actually is an alias for ls -CF (as you can find out by running alias ). These kind of aliases are usually defined in ~/.bashrc (in case you want to modify them or add additional ones). So while the second syntax with \ is correct and you should use that one, the first with \\ works too. The only exception is double-backslash at the very beginning of a path that indicates a UNC path. See Universal Naming Convention.
